Improved Economic and Urban Planning in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

The Sustainable Energy and Economic Development (SEED) programme is a £37.5 million initiative funded by the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) to promote economic development and sustainable energy in Pakistan, specifically focusing on the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). Within SEED, Adam Smith International (ASI) is delivering the first component, Improved Economic and Urban Planning in KP, with a £15 million budget. The programme supports initiatives such as enhancing public investment management, strengthening the PPP framework, and mobilizing public and private investments that generate economic, social, and environmental returns. SEED is significantly contributing to KP’s development through priority transactions, wide-ranging reforms and addressing critical infrastructure gaps in roads, tourism, and energy.

IMPACT STORIES

" The SEED programme has helped us not just in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's journey to be a better investment destination; it worked with us on improving the energy and particularly hydropower economy of the province. "

Taimur Khan Jhagra

Former Finance & Health Minister, Pakhtunkhwa

" I think SEED is an organisation that has fit very well in this development and sustainability aspect, and we would like to work with them in the future and rely on their experience and know-how to help us in Pakistan with the ongoing sustainable development projects. "

Abdullah Al-Mutairi

CEO, Enertech Holding

" SEED has joined hands with Atomcamp, a continuous learning platform, to impart digital and business skills to home-based women entrepreneurs in KP. We have also collaborated with the Bank of Khyber to include modules on financial inclusion and financial literacy because this was a core gap that we felt needed to be bridged. "

Wajeeha Amir

Delivery Associate, SEED Programme

" SEED has been very instrumental in structuring and putting this whole deal together (the Green Hydrogen and Sustainable Urban Development Project), and we look forward to working on other deals with them. "
