Bridge Code

Building Stronger, Safer Bridges

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) is leading the way with Pakistan’s first dedicated Highway Bridge Code, setting new standards for the design, construction, and maintenance of highway bridges. This comprehensive framework addresses KP’s unique challenges, including heavy vehicle loads, locally available materials, and climate risks such as floods. By ensuring bridges are safer, longer-lasting, and more resilient to extreme weather, the code will create a stronger and more reliable road network. Standardising bridge construction will also reduce design errors, project delays, and unnecessary costs, making better use of public investment while improving overall infrastructure quality.

SEED played a key role in developing the KP Highway Bridge Code, bringing together a team of bridge design and structural experts to lead the process. It facilitated a dedicated committee of engineers, specialists, and government officials, ensuring a thorough review of existing practices and alignment with international standards. After extensive consultations stretched over a year, the code has now been finalised and approved by the Chief Minister of KP. This marks a major step forward in modernising KP’s infrastructure, making bridges safer, more cost-effective, and better prepared for the future.
